Policies and Expectations
Driversity of the East Bay
Don't expect to remember everything taught on your first lesson. You will retain more information if you are calm and relaxed and remember after the lesson practice, practice, practice.
You will make mistakes on your lessons. We want you to make them with us - we expect it - your parents don't. Give them time to adjust. You will want to drive 24 hours a day. You will want to pick out every bad habit they exhibit while driving. If you insist on commenting on their habits it will severely interfere with your goal - and that is to get them, you, the keys, and the car in the same place at the same time. In contrast, they don't find driving quite as exhilarating as you do. When you ask they will pretend they didn't hear you, come up with excuses and such. Hold their feet to the fire and ask them why did they put you through the program if they didn't want you to have the best advantage possible.
If you are lucky enough to have parent(s) or guardian(s) that practice with you, encourage you, and assist you in becoming a competent and confident driver - consider yourself lucky about 70% of you don't.
Now, you may not bond with every instructor - be realistic this is hardly the forum to bond. You are with us to learn how to drive - let us do our job. Your lesson can fluctuate up to 1/2 hour early for pick up or 1/2 after the scheduled pick up time. Every effort is made to arrive on time but unless you haven't noticed cars, traffic, and schedules do not always cooperate with each other. Be realistic.
Expect the lesson to end immediately if there is any display of intentionally ignoring directions given, jeopardizing the safety of yourself, the instructor, or the general public. Expect the lesson to end if you have a bad attitude, are insulting, abusive, tired, or intoxicated.
We expect you to conduct yourself in a responsible mature manner. We also expect that when you make an appointment and for some reason you cannot make it you notify the office 24 hours prior to the lesson. If you book an appointment on the weekend ask for the instructor's cell phone number. The cancellation policies apply to weekend appointments as well. You are expected to keep track of where you are in the program and keep your documents together. You are expected to allot enough time to accomplish your goals. Being short sighted adds to your stress and this should be a great experience. You are planning to fail if you fail to plan. Any no show, cancellation, bounced check fee must be paid prior to scheduling any future lesson or services. Any issue with any lesson must be address by notifying the office within 5 days of the lesson - no exceptions. You will be treated with courtesy, respect, and kindness. Do not take this as a sign of weakness. Any manipulation of any program, any attempt to cause disruption, or any temper tantrums by you, your parents, or guardians will result in expulsion from the program - there are no exceptions. Life is too short. |
